Anxiety Counselling

Counselling for anxiety is a recommended course of action for many types of anxiety issues.

How is Anxiety Affecting You?

Have you decided enough is enough?
Anxiety disorders are very common. But does that fact mean you need to put up with it for the rest of your life? A Great Britain study discovered 10% of the population are likely to have a ‘disabling anxiety disorder’ at some stage in their life!

With 1 in 10 people hit by this debilitating condition, you’d think a cure would be a priority for the NHS. But, anxiety is best treated with counselling, life changes and a blend of relaxation and self-empowerment tools. (Source)

This is where a 1-2-1 therapist really comes into play. Before you go down this route, the most important factor you need to take into consideration is that you find a therapist you like, trust, and someone who understands you, and anxiety disorders. Client and Therapist relationship is paramount for your success for all anxiety counselling to be successful.

What is Anxiety?
Anxiety can be described as having feelings of fear or panic! Most people get anxious and fearful about certain situations in life. The most common things such as money problems or exams. But, once those hard situations are over, the anxious feelings usually subside. If the anxious feelings continue once the “real” situation is over then it may be that anxiety is having a negative effect that you now want to address.

There are quite a few symptoms of anxiety, these include feeling frightened, nervous or panicky more frequently than what’s normal. It’s not uncommon to feel low or depressed and have it may also affect how you sleep too. Anxiety can be so debilitating because when you feel those ways for long enough it can begin to affect you physically.

Why Have I Got Anxiety?
If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be normal! The anxiety feeling is an everyday thing for most people, it’s the times a person feels anxiety and the severity of it that’s the issue. The problem is clear, we all need to feel anxious from time to time, but it’s when the scales tip the wrong way that we begin to feel like we need some help.

So, everyone has anxiety, it’s just about controlling the times is shows, the severity, and the frequency it occurs.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel though. We all have to create anxiety! Therefore it makes it easy to understand that we, need to reduce how much we create.

What Are My Options?
There are a few options available to you: As I said above, we create anxiety and therefore it’s only us, who can get rid of it or stop doing it!

  • Think of things to do that are conducive to feeling the opposite of anxious! Meditation, mindfulness, and even self-hypnosis are a great set of tools to start your journey.
  • Diet is a big factor in anxiety. Think of foods and drinks that calm and have those instead of the ones that stress.
  • 1-2-1 therapy and anxiety counselling. Having a qualified and experienced therapist is a proven method of treatment. But, don’t expect to sit for a few hours and be “cured” without haveing to take some action because it doesn’t work that way. If you’re ready to take action then this can be the best method to choose.

Can I Help You With Anxiety?

Very possibly. Since 2006 I have worked with 1000’s of clients on hundreds of issues. Each person has their own experience and with 1-2-1 therapy, like most things, the effects can vary. However, as a practical therapist / counselor, I have come to find that a solution focused therapy tied in with actionable steps for my clients to take, allows them to feel empowered. So therapy isn’t done to you, we look for solutions and use proven tools and techniques to assist you going forward.

30% of what I treat is anxiety and panic related. Even though right now you may feel like the only person who suffers from those feelings, you’re not alone. For you though, this statement doesn’t necessarily help. But, what it should do is give you hope that others feel like you do now, and get a result from embarking on making changes through counselling.
